Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Carlos Bacca and Mario Lemina

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 09 Dec 2016

Arsenal are reportedly in pole position to secure the signing of AC Milan forward Carlos Bacca. That's according to CalcioMercato (h/t Dipesh Agarwal of Sport Witness) who have suggested the Gunners are in the "front row" to land the Colombia international, and the Serie A side are said to be keen to move him on. Additionally, Paris Saint-Germain and Bacca's former side Sevilla are linked to the 30-year-old.During his time in La Liga with Sevilla, Bacca was one of the most reliable goalscorers in the division, while during his debut term with AC Milan, he netted 18 league goals. Here's a look back at his best moments with the Rossoneri so far:The report noted that Bacca is valued at around 25 million (21 million) by Milan, and that if a deal were to be struck, the striker would be keen to make the move to the Premier League.Prior to the 2016-17 season, Arsenal looked as though they had a lack of quality options at the sharp end of the pitch. But as the campaign has played out, manager Arsene Wenger now has plenty of players he can rely on to do a fine job at the point of the attack.Alexis Sanchez, in particular, has excelled there. The Chile international has added a thrust and intensity to the centre-forward position the team has long lacked. These numbers from Squawka Football sum up just how key he's been to the cause:Additionally, Olivier Giroud has proven to be a potent goalscorer in the Premier League over many years, and Lucas Perez, after a slow start to life at the Emirates Stadium, showed what he's capable of with a hat-trick in the UEFA Champions League against Basel on Tuesday.Bacca would be a fine option for Arsenal and has scored goals consistently in every division he's played in. However, given his age, the potential cost of the deal and the players starring in the berth at the moment, it'd be a big surprise if this was a deal the Gunners pursued with any great endeavour.Mario Lemina Status UnclearAccording to CalcioMercato (h/t Lucas Sposito of Sport Witness), reported Arsenal target Mario Lemina still has an uncertain future at Juventus. As noted in the piece, both the Gunners and Leicester City were linked with the combative midfield man in the summer, although Juventus resisted any offers for the 23-year-old. It's suggested "cards are shuffled" when it comes to Lemina, who made his first start since October on Wednesday, and that could trigger new interest from the Premier League sides. For a lot of elite teams in European football, the midfielder would be playing a much more significant role. Here is a glimpse of what he can offer:Lemina started the season as a big part of the Juventus midfield and impressed with some composed displays. However, as key men have found their feet and returned to full fitness for the Bianconeri, he's slowly dropped back down the pecking order and lost consistency. In fairness to the player, he's been dealt some poor fortune this season, as noted by Bleacher Report's Gianni Verschueren:However, with the likes of Claudio Marchisio, Sami Khedira, Miralem Pjanic, Hernanes and Stefano Sturaro all competing for a starting spot, it's tough to see where Lemina fits in the first team. The same could be said for Arsenal, too. As he's done in the centre-forward role, Wenger has addressed the lack of bite in the middle of the park for the Gunners with the recent acquisitions of Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny. If Lemina is to leave Juve, it must be for a club that can give him regular football.Read more World Football news on BleacherReport.com
