Asdrubal Cabrera Requests Trade from Mets After Move to 2B

Published by Bleacher Report on Sat, 24 Jun 2017

New York Mets infielder Asdrubal Cabrera was activated from the disabled list and listed as the team's starting second baseman Friday, but the move from shortstop didn't sit well with the 31-year-old.According to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, Cabrera told reporters before Friday's game he's "not happy about the move to second base" and "has asked his agent" to facilitate a trade.Cabrera also told reporters on Friday part of his decision to seek a trade stems from the fact that the Mets have yet to guarantee his $8.5 millionclub optionfor next season, which includes a $2 million buyout."You want me to move to third, give me something, to take my option," Cabrera said, according toCBS New York."They say no in that moment. Thats why I think they dont have no plan for me."However, Mets manager Sandy Alderson indicated finding a suitor for Cabrera isn't a seamless task."As a practical matter, that's easier said than done, even if I was so inclined," he said, per NJ.com'sAbbey Mastracco. "I don't know that it's something that he really wishes. I know he said that in his conversation with you and that's probably a natural part of it, but as I said, it's not really a question of satisfying him or not, it's a practical matter. We'll see what develops with all of our players."According toBaseball-Reference.com, Cabrera last logged playing time at second base in 2014 when he was with the Washington Nationals.Through 49 appearances this season, the veteran is slashing .244/.321/.392 with six home runs and 20 RBI.
