4-Star Center Prospect Ian Steere Commits to Creighton over Louisville, Others

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 07 Jul 2017

The Creighton Bluejays bolstered their frontcourt Thursday ahead of the 2018-19 season with the commitment of 4-star center Ian Steere.Steere announced his decision on Twitter:The High Point, North Carolina, native is the No. 9 center and No. 76 player overall, per Scout.Scout's Evan Daniels thought Steere's commitment was a coup for the Jays:At 6'9" and 240 pounds, Steere's frame likely ensures he'll spend the bulk of his time at the 4 when he joins Creighton. In addition to the potential mismatch he'd have against taller, more physical centers, the position would also limit what Steere can do on the court. In an April interview with Rivals'Eric Bossi, Steere emphasized his physical gifts and versatility when highlighting his best assets: "My athleticism, strength, my speed and agility for my height and size. [I have] post up and face up game, defense, rebounding and midrange."From a pragmatic perspective, Steere will be a much-needed addition for the Jays, who have just four frontcourt players on their rosterwithToby Hegner set to graduate after the upcoming season.Looking at the bigger picture, Steere's commitment illustrates Creighton's muscle on the recruiting trail. The team is also welcoming in two 4-star recruitsJacob EppersonandMitchell Ballockas part of its 2017 class.By continuing to attract recruits of Steere's caliber, head coachGreg McDermott is not only positioning the Jays as a top contender in the Big East but also a program capable of making a deep run in the NCAA tournament.
