Commissioner responsible for Crown's relegation 'Club's ex Chairman 'He's not competent 'Farouk Alao

Published by Tribune on Fri, 28 Nov 2014

Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Alhaji Umar Farouk Arisekola Alao and the former chairman of Crown Football Club of Ogbomoso, Alhaji Noah Bello traded blame over the poor run of the club during the just ended league and the sack of the management staff of the club. The state government had earlier sacked the General Manager, Fatai Olayinka and the Chief Operating Officer, Tony Rafua over the class poor performance.Alhaji Bello had as a result condemned the action of the commissioner and Alao told him to resign his appointment if he was not pleased with his Alao's decision.Bello had told Tribunesport on Wednesday by phone that the commissioner should be held responsible for the failure of Crown FC in the just concluded league season as he alleged that he was biased and did not give much support to the team as he did to Shooting Stars, adding that the commissioner did not allow them to take any decision conerning the running of the club and that they were not well motivated financially .But while reacting to this, the commissioner said he was suprised that the former chairman could talk about this person in that manner saying that he (Bello) was the problem of the club and that he is ready to face him in a one on one debate anytime anywhere.'He did not contributed anything to the success of the club but mere distraction and confusion,' Alao said, 'When the team was going down, he sacked coach Lawrence Akpokona without informing me and I did not want to interfere because there was a management in place but I invited them for a meeting and at the meeting, all of them voted out the coach and I agreed with them, so how did I take decision for them' 'Ask him what his board did for the team since it was reconstituted, nothing, they did not win a single match both home and away, except the last match against Akwa United. Please, once again, ask him what they did with all the money for their matches, and yet he claims we have not been supporting them, he is not a gentleman at all for trying to spoil my name.''On the Shooting Stars, when they had issues, I advised them and they listened though, they have a good management which managed the little funds available to them, not that they had so much money to throw about. They were sincere with themselves and focused, so why won't they get promotion/ What will I gain to be biased' Why should I be in the first place, I am not in anyway against Crown FC as he wants people to believe because I believe he needs cheap publicity but he should be man enough to tell the truth because good name is better that gold or silver, even though it is rather unfortunate and sad that the team was relegated despite its good start to the season, but I believe that if the management had done the needfull, the team would not have been in this messy situation'', Alao said on Thursday while speaking with Tribunesport in his office.
