LoL Mobile Betting Grows 290% After Riot Policy Shift

Published by Thisday on Wed, 04 Mar 2026

League of Legends champions Katarina and Morgana

DATA.BET dropped their Q3 2025 report a few months back. League of Legends betting turnover up 290% versus the same quarter last year. That number landed after Riot finally let teams work with betting sponsors—something they'd refused to do for years.

John Needham announced it June 26, 2025. He runs Publishing and Esports at Riot. The short version: billions were already flowing through LoL betting markets, mostly through offshore operators Riot couldn't touch. So they opened the door to licensed ones.

Phone apps handle most of it now. Bettors on bizbet mongolia see LoL odds right next to football and basketball — same app, no switching platforms. Scroll down and there's the T1 vs Gen.G match with live lines updating.

What Riot Allows

Tier 1 teams in LoL and VALORANT can sign betting sponsors. But Riot put limits on it:
  • No logos on jerseys during broadcasts
  • No betting ads on Riot's streams or socials
  • Teams need integrity programs before signing anyone
  • Every partner goes through Riot's vetting
The broadcast looks exactly like it did before. Teams just have a new revenue source they couldn't touch until mid-2025.

MIBR Got There First

MIBR's VALORANT roster got a betting sponsor in November 2025. First team to clear Riot's approval process. The organization had already run a betting partnership on their Counter-Strike squad for years, so they knew the compliance drill.

Riot's compliance people reviewed how MIBR handles governance. Raphael Castanheira, their marketing director, talked about "robust governance, clear processes" and integrity policies. Enough to satisfy the vetting.

No sponsor logos during VCT matches. The activations happen on MIBR's own channels.

Where the Bets Go

LoL jumped from fourth to second in esports betting volume after that Q3 spike. CS2 still has the top spot. But League gained ground fast.
Sharpr tracks this stuff — their Global Esports Betting Monitor had League holding a decent chunk of handle through early 2025. Makes sense. LCK runs matches most weeks. LEC too. Then playoffs, then MSI, then Worlds. There's almost always something to bet on.

Match winner is still the big one. Map winner for best-of series. First tower, dragon count, game length — those prop markets picked up after the surge. Some books added baron timing and kill totals.

Mobile and Live Odds

LoL matches take half an hour, give or take. Early laning, teamfights around dragon, then late game where one bad call ends it. Odds move through all of that. First blood hits and the lines shift. Dragon spawns, they shift again. A team 5k gold behind at 15 can still win at 35 — bookmakers price that in.

Bettors who grab the bizbet download apk get live lines during draft phase. Laning plays out, odds move. Stream delay is only a few seconds on most broadcasts, so what you're watching is pretty close to what the book is pricing.

Esports bets tend to run bigger than football wagers. The people betting on LoL watch LCK at 5am, read patch notes, know which teams play slow. They bet less often but put more down when they do.

Why Riot Caved

Teams had been asking for this forever. Dota 2 had betting sponsors. Counter-Strike too. Riot was the holdout.

Then someone did the math. $10.7 billion in betting turnover on Riot titles in 2024. All of it going through books Riot had no relationship with. No data sharing, no oversight, nothing.

Needham's argument was simple. People bet on League regardless of what Riot thinks. Working with licensed operators at least gives them visibility. The alternative was pretending it wasn't happening.

Tier 1 only, though. Those orgs have compliance teams. Smaller organizations don't get access.

What Happens Now

MIBR set the template. Other Tier 1 teams can follow — pass the vetting, set up integrity protocols, keep logos off jerseys during official matches.

OverActive Media said no right away. Not everyone wants betting money. Worlds 2025 saw a lot of action though. Esports betting did $2.8 billion that year, and LoL grabbed more of it than before. Gen Z makes up close to half of all esports bettors. Most of them use their phones.

Riot's official streams stayed clean through all of this. The betting content lives on team channels. If you don't follow those, you won't see it.
