Ocean Boys drop 18 players

NIGERIA Premier League (NPL) side, Ocean Boys, has sacked 18 players ahead of the forthcoming season, reports MTNFootball.com.'We retained only 14 players from a squad of 32 players based on their performance and commitment to the club,' Ocean Boys spokesman, Eddy Ohis, disclosed.'Those retained will resume on December 6 in Sagama along with other invited players to begin preparations for the new season,' he added.The players retained include Ayo Saka, Felix Benjamin, Andrew Nwordu, Ifeanyi Okafor, Okechukwu Okemiri, Collins Nwaneri, Ekisah Oyinkipreye and Raphael John.Others are Emmanuel Enize, Edddy Ongolo, Joseph Essien, Egbe Ospino, Chiamaka Madu and Femi Thomas.Ocean Boys barely escaped relegation by a point on the final day of the season after drawing 1-1 at relegated Zamfara United in Gusau.Despite losing more than half of its squad in mid-season, the team from Brass also placed third in the Federation Cup.Ocean Boys general manager, Tony Ogolla, revealed the team is keeping Coach Samson Unuanel, who contributed to its survival in the Nigerian top flight.'The coach will stay for next season after helping us to avoid relegation,' said Ogolla, adding, 'it has gone on break to resume next month and we hope that with the coach and some more assistance we will do much better next season.
