How We Discovered Huge Cache Of Arms At Lagos Airport

THE Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc, the firm in whose warehouse large cache of arms was found, has given more details about the discovery.Spokesman of the firm, Mr. Sanya Onayoade, explained that there had been a build-up of overtime cargos not claimed by importers which had taken up tremendous space in their warehouse and have been hampering their operations.'This is to inform members of the public that the arms found in the Customs Bonded warehouse of Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO Aviance) Plc were discovered by NAHCO Aviance operatives during their routine evacuation of overtime cargos,' he said.He explained that when firm's operatives discovered the cargo containing the ammunition on Tuesday, November 15, they promptly alerted Customs officialls and other security operatives attached to the warehouse.He listed the items which were tagged and handed over to the Customs assix double barrel guns, one single barrel gun, one pump action, one Uzzi, two magazines, one Barreta pistol and one Becheverria pistol.The ammunitions recovered, he said, were 20 pieces of 5.56 mm caliber, 19 cartridges (12/12), 500 pieces blank armour and sealed box of cartridges.The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command, Lagos said the arms and ammunition were abandoned at the strong room of NAHCO.Its Area Comptroller, Michael Adewole, said investigation has begun to unravel those behind it, adding that the seized items were ranked as prohibited items that would not be allowed into the country except by government security agencies.
