Christian Character (III)Memory Verse: Put on therefore as the elect of God holy and beloved bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness and long suffering.Bible Passage: Col.3:12INTRODUCTION: In part two of this series, we examined the deeper meaning of love, joy, peace, long-suffering and gentleness. We will conclude our studies today by studying the remaining four strands of the fruit of the spirit. The Lord Himself will open our spiritual understanding as we study in Jesus' name.Lesson OutlinesChristian character includes goodness and faithIt also includes meekness and temperance.Goodness and Faith: This is being in a state of wholesome goodness in and out. Being good, kind, generous and considerate in the highest traditions of the Christian faith in life, style and conduct: a life full of good works. (Tit. 2:14; Prov. 25:21; Matt. 5:14 1; Thess. 5:15)Faith: This is Christian faithfulness. It's a spiritual virtue that enables a child of God exhibit a high degree reliability at all times. (1Cor. 4:17 Col. 1:7 Numb 7:1-2)Meekness: The meek in this context is able to restrain himself from using available powers and opportunity to revenge a wrong or fight back, preferring to let God take care of the situation at His time and in His way. (Eph. 4:2 Col. 3:12 Tit. 3:2 1Pet. 3:15) Christ exhibited this attribute and commanded us to behave in like manner. (Matt.11:29. 2Cor10:1)Temperance: This is effective self-control or moderation; avoiding overindulgence in otherwise legitimate pleasures. Mortifying the flesh, it's appetites and passions. (Prov. 23; -3, 25:16 Tit. 2:2. Romans 13:14. Phil 3:19 )Christian character is the consistent and clear exhibition of all the traits of the fruit of the Spirit. God expects Christians to make a positive impact on their immediate environment. Go forth therefore and meet God's expectation and be a blessing to all.
