Adewusi, Oniyide task Yewa-Awori on unity

Published by Tribune on Tue, 22 Nov 2011

The Chairman,House Committee on States and Local Government in the House of Representatives, Honourable Rasak Adewusi, has advised the people of Ogun West to shun pull-him-down (PHD) syndrome so that the area could move forward.Adewusi made the appeal when members of the Yewa-Awori Concerned Professionals (YACP) paid him a courtesy visit at his Yewa Plaza, Lalubu-Ibara, Abeokuta. He lamented that over the years, Yewa-Awori people had engaged in self-destruction.'My people should shun the idea of bringing ourselves down, and this militates against steady progress in the area. We should all see ourselves as brothers and sisters and work together with one mind to lift up Ogun West', Adewusi stated. The third-time member in the National Assembly posited that Yewa-Awori people, like in the past, missed the opportunity to clinch the exalted seat at the last 2011 governorship election as a result of self aggrandisement.'While the Egba people presented a candidate from their area for the governorship election, Ogun West presented two candidates and this lack of understanding in the political game-plan of the other senatorial districts of the state cost Yewa-Awori the opportunity to become the governor of the state at the last poll,' Adewusi noted.Earlier, at another forum, members of YACP were advised to always embark on programmes that will touch the lives of the people of Ogun West.Otunba Ireti Oniyide, a two-time governorship aspirant in Ogun State, handed down this advice when the group paid a sallah visit to Elhadj Abu-Satar Idowu Hamed, who is in-charge of Media & Strategy for the group at his Ilaro residence.Oniyide noted that Ogun West has been under-developed since the creation of the state in 1976, adding, as a people who have traveled far and wide, YACP should be proactive towards using their voice to attract projects like good roads, improvement on education, health, agriculture and housing, among other infrastructure to Ogun West. He, however, called on the youths of the area to always engage in meaningful activities and desist from whatever might stop them from achieving their future, adding they should be honest and transparent in whatever they do.Earlier in his speech, the National President of YACP, Mr. Biodun Akinde, disclosed that YACP was formed on the platform of friendship to promote unity, peace, harmony and development of Ogun West in particular and Ogun State in general.Akinde further stated that the group was a non-political group that consisted of professionals who have made their marks in their respective trade.
