Oyo plans 20,000 jobs, trains 300

In line with its job creation scheme, the Oyo State Government said it was training about 300 youths. The beneficiaries that are to be trained in disaster management were reportedly drawn from across the local government councils in the state.The Oyo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Adedapo Lam-Adesina, while declaring open the training at the Social Development Staff Training Centre, Ibadan on Tuesday, reiterated the administrations commitment to all round development of the youths in the state.Lam-Adesina said that the state government had evolved programmes and projects for the empowerment of youths.Among this, he said, were the training and the projected 20,000 jobs under the Youths Empowerment Scheme.The commissioner explained that the recent flood disaster that ravaged the state motivated the training. He said, "The training programme is geared towards expanding the resilient capacity of young people so as to prepare them against future occurrence."He stressed that the expectation of the state government at the end of the training was for participants to set up emergency corps marshal teams that could respond to emergencies in their communities.He urged participants to support the Ajimobi-led administration in its transformation agenda for the restoration of the lost glory of the state.A Guest Lecturer on the occasion, Mr. Tayo Ayoade, who spoke on Issues and challenges in disaster management, stressed the need for concerted efforts in disaster risk reduction as well as the need to give early warning signals in risk areas.Ayoade advised that the missing link in disaster reduction mechanism should be supplied by all stakeholders through the establishment of volunteer groups, sensitisation campaign, training and other strategies.
