IGI unveils U-19 football talent hunt tournament

INDUSTRIAL and General Insurance, IGI Plc, has unveiled an age group football competition for young players between the ages of 15 and 19, IGI U-19 Football talent hunt tournament.Speaking on the tournament, the Deputy Managing Director, IGI, Rotimi Fashola said that the football talent hunt is designed with the aim of nurturing and helping teenage youths to achieve their deam by giving them the opportunity to exhibit their potential and eventually pursue professional football in Nigeria or abroad.Fashola said IGI, the official insurer of Nigeria national teams and the Nigeria Premier League, is deeply involved in sports philantrophy and so the talent hunt is a way of expressing its corporate Social responsibility of profitably engaging young players positively for the development of sports in Nigeria.He further explained that the talent hunt was a national event but Lagos State is being used as the pilot state to test-run the tournament, adding that the talent hunt attracted participants from all major streets in Lagos namely Ikorodu, Ikeja and Badagry.According to the talent hunt Consultant, Opeyemi Lawal, the event will start on October 3 throughOctober 28 and will be coordinated by a core team of both Nigerian and foreign Coaches who will together screen all the players to discover 100 of them who are now divided into four teams of 20 players and five provisional players each.
