Sack NFF technical chief ' Oliseh

Published by Punch on Thu, 24 Nov 2011

Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh has reacted angrily to the statement credited to the Nigeria Football Federation saying he does not have the experience to coach the Eagles. The Belgium-based Oliseh, in an online interview with THE PUNCH on Wednesday, said the problem created by the federation on the road to Japan 2002 had continued to haunt the countrys football and called for the sack of Mr. Chris Green, the NFF technical committee head.He said, "Greens statements are implying not only that I am not qualified enough, but that I do not even know what it is I want to do. I was peacefully in my home in Belgium when my phone rang from the current NFF President Aminu Maigari, to offer me the post of the technical director. The first thing I made clear to them was that I had studied and graduated as a world level professional coach and coaching was my interest. Furthermore Samson Siasia was already appointed the coach."Instead of them, the NFF, having seen what and where that monumental error they made in 2002 has brought our football today, they are still bent on trying to spoil the good name God blessed us with. I really have tried to avoid conflict in recent years but the uninformed assertions made by the NFF in my regard leaves me no choice but to vividly clarify things."If I offered my services to coach the Eagles recently it is not because I cherish having to collaborate with them, but because my websites inbox was blown apart by well meaning Nigerians who had asked me to put the nation at heart and come and coach the Eagles."Green boastfully told me on the telephone how he orchestrated the appointment of Sammy (Siasia) over Stephen Keshi based on the popular demand at the time and the fact that he despised Keshis big man attitude. This implies that since Sammy was sacked, he should also be sacked. Thats how it is done in any serious footballing nation."When I read that Siasia was not aware that at 2-1 versus Guinea we had qualified, I wondered what the job of the technical committee headed by Green was."They talk about experience but they forget that till date I am the first Nigerian to have held a coaching job in Europe as a chief coach at RSCV Verviers in Belgium."Green who spoke on the matter with our correspondent on the telephone on Wednesday said it was Olisehs fault that things turned out the way it had between both sides.Green said, "I respect Oliseh as an ex-international and an educated coach but I will not be dragged into exchanging angry comments with him on the pages of newspapers. He claims the NFF owes him an apology, does that mean he has not forgiven the past administration. If he has not forgiven the NFF, why will he want to work with the current administration'"We did the right thing in the appointment of Stephen Keshi because we see him as the most qualified for the Super Eagles job. Oliseh was negotiating for the post of the Technical Director but suddenly showed interest in the coaching job which the NFF already had candidates for. I believe Oliseh is a good coach but we cannot have two people in one post."If he says Im not experienced in football, how come I was in charge of Sharks for eight years' After that, I was made Rivers State Commissioner for Sports then later Special Adviser on Sports to the Rivers State Governor. The NFF does not deserve the criticism from Oliseh. We contacted him because we feel he has the qualification for the post of the technical director. We still need him."
