Oyo plans low-cost housing scheme

In a bid to address the problem of housing, the Oyo State Government has said it will embark on construction of low-cost housing scheme.The Special Assistant to the Governor on Housing, Mr. Abiodun Gbolagade, said this in Ibadan on Tuesday at a news briefing.Gbolagade said the programme could provide two-bedroom accommodation at a cost of N750,000 each. This, he said, would bring an end to the current situation where such property cost about N3m.Under the scheme, he explained, experts would handle the construction of the housing units. According to him, the state government will provide the materials for the construction of the buildings.Gbolagade explained that the youths would be trained on how to produce cheap but durable building materials. The governors aide said a 350-acre of land had been acquired for the project.He said, The low-cost housing project will assuage the discomfort of those rendered homeless during the recent flood disaster in the state.He pointed out that discussions were going on between the state government and officials of the National Housing Fund to facilitate access to housing loan to the tune of N2m each to the beneficiaries.
