Let the law take its course

Published by Punch on Fri, 25 Nov 2011

If truly that a serving senator and an ex-governor are involved in sponsoring the extremist Islamic sect, Boko Harams attacks on innocent Nigerians of which many lives have been lost then the country as a whole needs to wake up this time and fight injustice outright. President Goodluck Jonathan must make sure that those names of prominent Nigerians mentioned should face the full consequence of their actions as dictated by the law. It is time for our law to begin to work for us. This time, the law should not be perverted or carpeted. No more sacred cow and no one should be above the law. The law should therefore take its full course. We are advancing developmentally so we should also upgrade our level of fighting injustice and corruption in every ramification and sphere. All eyes are on us as a nation. More investigation should be done and anyone found guilty should be punished accordingly.Nigeria should learn to use the constitution which states the stand and position of the law in fighting against terrorism. We cannot continue to be a lawless nation with no direction and basic rules and regulation to guide us. Many lives have been lost due to our negligence of the law and disregard of the rule of law. The various bomb attacks and brutal killings by the Boko Haram are as a result of our failure to put in place proper security and law to guide our security outfits in Nigeria. We have failed as a nation to build ourselves based on simple obedience and regard for law and order. It is time now for us to wake up from slumber and fight lawlessness. If at 51 we are still struggling and battling to survive with all the natural resources in abundance then we are not good enough for the political independence we received on a platter in 1960. The government should not allow unscrupulous elements to hinder the progress presently been embarked upon with the rejuvenating of the economy. Therefore, no one involved in these bombings should go free. Let the law take its place.- Oso Oludare Candy wrote in from Osi-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
