police kill robber, 5 others flee with bullet wounds in Imo

A team of policemen from the ImoState police command, at about 10.15 p.m on Wednesday, near Ogbaku-Owerri, Onitsha road, gunned down one unidentified robber.The state Police Public RelationsOfficer (PPRO), Mr Samuel Oodee, announced this while briefing newsmen at the police headquarters, Owerri, on Thursday.According to him, the police team acted on a tip, through a distress call when they stormed the scene popularly known as 'free zone'.In the encounter that ensued between the team and robbers, one of the suspected robbers was shot down on the spot by the police, while five others escaped the scene with bullet wounds.Oodee told newsmen that the Abia Bus Line, which was coming from Lagos, ran into the hands of the criminals.He pointed out that apart from the N4,000 recovered from the scene of the incident by the police, other items recovered included two rifles and some live ammunition.The PPRO then appealed to members of the public to cooperate with the police by giving them vital information that could help them in arresting these criminals, especially during the Yuletide.
