Ekiti LGs urged to build houses

Published by Tribune on Fri, 25 Nov 2011

SPECIAL Adviser to Ekiti State governor on Rural Development, Hon. Bamidele Oguntoyinbo, has charged local governments in the state to build houses for intending tenants. He said such ventures were local government's function, just as he stressed that access roads, township roads and market construction were also the responsibilities of local governments.Hon. Oguntoyinbo, who was responding to a request for staff quarters by a functionary of Ilejemeje Local Government, said such projects could be accomplished by local governments in collaboration with the state government. He was speaking during a recent sensitisation tour of local government areas where he commended social security monthly stipends to the elderly, which the Fayemi administration had embarked upon.He said the novel idea was an evidence of Governor Fayemi's caring heart towards the needy and a demonstration of his readiness to serve the Ekiti people. He charged the Ikole people to unite to fight the bororo herdsmen, who had been terrorising and robbing them in the villages and on their farms, adding that they, as the landlords of the herdsmen, were in a better position to supply the police with the details of their movements. The Ikole Local Government had used the opportunity of the meeting to call for the splitting of the council into four among other requests. At Oye-Ekiti, the community representatives also used the opportunity to call on Governor Fayemi to tar the Oye-Are, as well as Oye-Ire roads to boost farming and commercial activities in the area.
