SUPER Eagles former defender, Bright Omokaro, has been given the task of reviving fallen giant, Bendel Insurance of Benin, which has been languishing in the lower league of Nigerian football since 2008.Speaking while unveiling the former African Nations Cup silver medalist to the club's fans in Benin yesterday, Edo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Iziegbe Anita Evbuomwan, said Omokaro was chosen after a careful appraisal of the needs of the club, saying the coach's main assignment was to lead Insurance back to Premiership.Evbuomwan noted that the present state of Bendel Insurance was a source of worry to the people of Edo state, stressing that the team needed to return to its glorious position as the flagship of Nigerian Football. She added: 'Neither the Ministry nor the Management Committee will interfere in the technicalities of Bright Omokaro's job as he is expected to use his professional expertise to build a formidable team that will make Edo people proud again.'The government of Adams Oshiomhole does not engage in illegalities, neither do we believe in bribe taking, as such, Coach Omokaro should ensure that all such practices are completely discouraged. He must ensure that only the best players are recruited for the team, and the terms of contract must be adhered to.'While commending the club's management for shelving their personal interest for the growth of the Club, the Commissioner stated that the screening process that saw Omokaro as eventual chief coach was transparent and devoid of bias and sentiment. In his remarks, Omokaro was happy for the opportunity given him to redeem the club, noting that as a former Bendel Insurance player, he was very passionate about bringing the team back to its glory days.Commending Governor Adams Oshiomhole for his positive drive to revive sports in Edo State, Omokaro said the governor was the first to appoint a former Super Eagles coach to head a Grassroots Football Development Programme, adding that he remained a product of grassroots football.
