Mourinho wanted Guardiola as assistant

Former Barceona vice-president Marc Ingla has revealed that Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho was interviewed as a potential head coach for the club, with Pep Guardiola mooted as a possible assistant for the Portuguese. The 48-year-old was Bobby Robson and Louis van Gaals number two at the Catalan club, and almost returned to Camp Nou, according to Ingla. "We had a meeting in Lisbon with him and his representative," Ingla told AS. "Mourinho showed us a PowerPoint summarising his football philosophy: how to evolve our classic 4-3-3, the ingoing and outgoings he had in mind, and even people who could work on his technical staff. "He proposed the names of Guardiola, Luis Enrique, Sergi Barjuan and Albert Ferrer to be his number two." In the end, the club chose Guardiola, and Ingla attributes this decision to former director of football Txiki Begiristain. "He was Txikis first choice and becuase Mourinho said he was never going to change his attitude towards the media." Barcelona and Real Madrid clash in the Spanish capital on December 10.
