B'ball: First Deepwater happy to host Africa

The 2011 edition of the final round of the FIBA Africa Champions Club for Women earlier schedule for Cameroon will now hold in Nigeria with domestic league champions First Deepwater as the host club.In a media briefing in Lagos during the week, club chairman, Babatunde Babalola, said the club was proud to associate itself with programmes of the continental ruling bodyFIBA Africa.Babalola said the notice for hosting the final round of the continents biggest women club championship came rather late but added that his club decided to host the tourney due to their commitment to the development of basketball in Africa.He said, "I want to state that we are pleased to be part of the ongoing effort of pushing basketball up the ladder in Africa and to be considered worthy to stage the final round of the 2011 17th FIBA Africa Champions Club for Women."Due to the short notice, we are providing the needed fund to the Nigeria Basketball Federation for the smooth organisation of the championship."The club and management of its parent company will continue to do its best to contribute its quota to the development and promotion of basketball across Africa."Eight clubs will take part in the competition from December 4 to 10 17 at the sports hall of the National Stadium, Lagos.The teams include hosts First Deepwater; defending champion, Interclube of Angola; First Bank of Nigeria; I.N.J.S of Cameroon; Arc-en-Ciel of Democratic Republic of Congo; Maculosso of Angola; Ports Authority of Kenya; and O.C.E of Algeria.
