We'll continue to contribute to Nigeria's development 'HBSAN

Published by Punch on Mon, 28 Nov 2011

The President, Harvard Business School Association of Nigeria, Chief (Mrs.) Nike Akande, has said the association will continue to contribute to the development of the country. Akande, who spoke to our correspondent at a dinner organised by the association in Lagos on Friday said, "Some of our members are in key political positions and they have been putting in their best; this is a proof that the association is a major contributor to the development of the country. "And we will continue to try our best using the acquired knowledge and trainings to strategise and put together ways to achieve developmental goals that will be of benefit to the citizens and the economy at large." She also said the association regularly embarked on the review of the Federal Governments budget. She added that the review always took place almost immediately the budget was made public. "We hold public forum where the budget is analysed, its impact assessed and its long-term implication discussed, then we send our ideas to the government," she explained. According to her, the delay in releasing the budget has been the only constraint in the review exercise. The Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Rasheed Gbadamosi, in his speech, expressed concern over the low level of development in the country, urging the association to continue engaging policy formulators for a better Nigeria. "They can utilise the knowledge they have imbibed to impact on the knowledge of the society," he said. A former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, also urged members of the association to do more for the country. He said there was a collection of minds in the association that could make a change in Nigeria. Nnamani said, "We need you to go into dialogue with people that will change Nigeria, using skills and knowledge you have acquired to reach out to the general public on how to move the nation towards economic growth and development."
