Communities in Efon and Ekiti West Local Government Areas of Ekiti State have listed water, good roads, electricity and functional health centres as top on the list of their demands from the state government in the 2012 budget.The communities listed their demands in separate speeches delivered by their representatives during the town hall meetings the state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, held with them as he commenced his tour of the 16 local government areas of the state to know their demands as the government prepares the 2012 budget.Dr Kunle Olajide, who spoke for Efon community on the occasion, called for the rehabilitation of a road he said was 'about 300 meters' leading to the general hospital in the town and also asked the state government to build a police post at Itawure.The community leader said the people of the local government also craved for an institution of higher learning in Efon as well as the development of the site River Oni, which he said had medicinal powers, to a tourist attraction.At Ekiti West, the people of Okemesi, who were represented by Oloye Osuolale Oyeniyan, charged the state government to complete the Itawure-Okemesi road which the people said had never been completed at a stretch since the era of Western Nigeria.Oyeniran also called for the repair of the township roads in the town as well as the extension of infrastructure to the new areas of the town.Chief Adeosun Oni, who spoke on behalf of the people of Aramoko, thanked the state government for connecting the community to the 133KVA electricity grid in Ado Ekiti, saying electricity supply to the town had improved.Oni, who is the National President of Aramoko Development Association, however pointed out that infrastructure in the town was grossly inadequate as 'potable water is a major problem in Aramoko,' and called for the rehabilitation of Aramoko-Ilawe road.The people of Ikogosi, represented by I.O. Ajetunmobi, wanted the state government to improve electricity supply to the community, saying they needed an electricity transformer 'as a special request as well as the repair of community roads and improvement of public water supply.'Erijiyan people, through Prince Gabriel Oluyemi, called for pipe-borne water in the town, while the people of Erio and Ido-Ile said there had not been electricity supply to the town in over six months.Governor Fayemi commended the people for speaking their minds, pointing out that the purpose of the town hall meetings was to get the peoples' input to the 2012 budget as it is being prepared.He assured the people that since the budget format had been modified to three-year format, those demands that could not be accommodated in the 2012 budget would be taken care of in subsequent ones.
