Published by Punch on Tue, 29 Nov 2011

The Chief Executive Officer, Starcomms Plc, Mr. Logan Pather, has said that the Code Division Multiple Access operator is not in any discussion with any operator on the possibility of being acquired.Pather, in a statement on Monday, dismissed the rumour of acquisition as unfounded, adding that the telecoms company was currently trading and making strategic plans to expand its business through organic and inorganic means. We are not discussing acquisition deal with anybody, but we will not rule out potential partnerships given the challenges in the telecommunication industry, he said.Pather assured stakeholders of the company of better days ahead, noting that the board and management were making efforts to ensure better service delivery. He explained that his agenda for the company was to acquire more subscribers, become extremely efficient in cost cutting and deliver returns to shareholders. He said, My agenda for this company is to make it stronger and competitive with the right partnerships. I have to make sure I acquire more subscribers.I must ensure that we are extremely efficient when it comes to cutting costs. We have made significant in-roads in cost reduction. Besides, what will differentiate us from other operators is top-class customer service delivery.According to him, the CDMA giant is currently considering expanding to more cities in the country in a bid to improve its coverage. He added that the company was constantly doing everything possible to enhance better service delivery to its customers.Starcomms, under its former CEO, Mr. Maher Qubain, had moved to buy MultiLinkstTelkom from the South Africa telecoms giant, Telkom SA.It was, however, beaten to it by Visafone, which reportedly made higher offer for MultiLinksTelkom. The celebrated acquisition was, however, reversed by an order of the Lagos High Court, which ruled in favour of Helios Towers Nigeria on the strength of a valid master lease agreement between it and MultiLinks.
