Sanusi named Forbes African Person of the Year

The Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, was on Monday named the Forbes African Person of the Year 2011.Sanusi, who was among five finalists shortlisted for the award, came first after recording the highest number of online votes.The Founder, Forbes Africa, Mr. Rakish Wahi, other finalists for the highly coveted award as the former President of Cape Varde, Mr. Pedro-Verona Pires; Liberian President, Mrs. Ellen-Johnson Sirleaf; the late Kenyan environmentalist, Prof. Wangari Mathai; and Nigerian business magnate, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.Sanusi, while receiving the award at a ceremony in Lagos on Monday evening, dedicated it to the 5,000 employees of the CBN and expressed appreciation to the organisers.He spoke of the apex banks resolve to continue to strive for a better economy.The governors of Lagos and Rivers states, Mr. Babatunde Fashola and Rotimi Amaechi, were in attendance at the ceremony.Other dignitaries at the event included a member of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa; three deputy governors of the CBN, and the Director-General, Securities and Exchange Commission, Ms. Arumah Oteh, among others.
