We must work together -Uchechi 'Don't write-off Dream Team -Thomas

Published by Tribune on Tue, 29 Nov 2011

NIGERIA'S U-23 team need to "work harder" if they are to make progress at the Olympics qualifying tournament, according to striker, Danny Uchechi. The "Dream Team" were beaten in their first game of the tournament in Morocco, going down 1-0 to hosts on Saturday. They play Senegal on Tuesday in their second game of the tournament."We need to have time together as a team, train together and get to know each other well," Uchechi said."We should have done better [against Morocco] - hopefully on the training ground we will try to correct our mistakes."Nigeria have a proud record in Olympic competition, having won the tournament in 1996 and taken silver in Beijing four years ago.Senegal also lost their opening game of the tournament, with a 1-0 defeat in the hands of Algeria, but Uchechi says he and his team mates cannot dwell on what their opponents will do."We are going to try and play our own game and see if we can come out on top," he said. The other match on Tuesday is the reverse fixture within Group A, as the two winnings side - hosts Morocco and Algeria - meet each other in Tangiers.Meanwhile,DREAM Team goalkeeper, Femi Thomas has assured Nigerians that the team will bounce back against the Junior Teranga Lions of Senegal.Thomas who sat on the bench in the 1-0 loss to Morocco on Saturday told SuperSport.com that it will be unfair to write them off after the defeat to the hosts, Morocco."I know we are beating Senegal hands down today."Nobody needs to remind us that it is a must win game, we know that already and will go all out for total victory."Senegal, too, lost to Algeria, that will make the game tougher, but we are determined to record a win," he said.
