Oyo to build N975m Ogunpa modern market

The Oyo State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ogunpa market traders to finalise the construction of the Ogunpa Ajumose International Market.The market, which has been in a deplorable state for years, is one of the oldest in the state. It is located in Ibadan North West Local Government and boasts thousands of traders.The reconstruction, which is to begin soon, is borne out of a public-private partnership of the government and Kamiluiz Nigeria Limited.The Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Physical Planning and Urban Development, Waheed Gbadamosi, said the market was a disaster, which the government wants to prevent.He said the construction, estimated to cost N975million, would be completed within six months.The project is to be executed in areas such as Dugbe Alawo axis, Old Gbagi road, across Ogunpa River and categorised into four phases.The phases include 325 lock up shops, 366 open stalls, 85 and 70 capacity parking lots, an ultra-modern health centre, a fire station and standard toilets.He said: This initiative is a product of the governors transformation agenda, he does not want traders on the road, hence the need to build a market of international repute.Gbadamosi further disclosed that in order to achieve this aim, the governor has enlisted the help of experts. The technical committee has been set up, the experts have been invited and has done a lot on this project.The caretaker chairman, Ibadan North West Local Government, Wasiu Olatunbosun, said: This project is as a result of the transformation and repositioning agenda of the Ajimobi-led administration.
