First Bank promotes tourism with Carnival Calabar sponsorship

An unswerving commitment to promoting tourism, foreign investments, and economic development has been the driving force behind Carnival Calabar sponsorship by First Bank of Nigeria Plc, the firm's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Bisi Onasanya has said.Onasanya, in a speech presented on his behalf by Mr. UK Eke, Executive Director, Public Sector, (South) at the Press Conference announcing the 2011 edition of the carnival, said FirstBank had consistently supported the carnival as part of its corporate social responsibility drive and resolve to align with initiatives aimed at diversifying the nation's revenue base through tourism.According to him, the success of the carnival underscores the need for robust interventions to promote tourism through sustainable public private partnerships across the nation.'At FirstBank our Corporate Social Responsibility and Sponsorship initiatives resonate with nation-building and economic development activities This makes us a major contributor to the social, economic and cultural development of Nigeria, beyond the provision of excellent financial services to our teeming customers. We are proud to be part of the huge success of the Carnival Calabar and remain committed to replicating this support for similar initiatives across the nation,' he said.The Bank's GMD said through intervention in selected focus areas, FirstBank is determined to facilitate sustainable solutions to the challenges faced by different sectors of the economy, while engaging in constructive and mutual partnerships with the beneficiaries.The focus areas include: education and youth development, sports development, health and welfare, arts and culture, entrepreneurial and economic development, environmental and social issues.
