Senator Adeseun rewards hotshot Aneke

Published by Punch on Wed, 30 Nov 2011

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, Senator Ayo Adeseun, has donated $1,000 to the highest goal scorer in the Nigeria Premier League Jude Aneke.Adeseun made the donation in condemnation of the lack of cash prizes for the champions of the Nigerian league and other individual award winners for the closed season. He said, I will be presenting to him a cash prize of the naira equivalent of $1,000, a letter of commendation and a Golden Boot. It is just a symbolic gift to serve as a source of encouragement to Aneke whom I understand is a graduate of Political Science from the Ebonyi State University. He has done tremendously well to became the highest goal scorer of the season.Piqued by the lack of proper marketing and funding of the Nigerian league and the sports system, Adeseun who is also a member of the Senate Committee on Sports, condemned the lackadaisical attitude of the government towards the league and the development of local sports at large.Aneke of Kaduna United set a new all-time goal record of 20 goals this season by breaking the 18-goal record set by Ahmed Musa in the previous season, and a 17-goal total set by Ishaya Jatau in 1990 has not been recognized for his great feat by the NPL.
