Immortalise him, Nsukka residents urge FG

Some residents of Nsukka, Enugu State, have called on the Federal Government to name some public structures after late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu.A trader, Mrs. Philomena Ogummah, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Nsukka on Tuesday that Ojukwu was a worthy son of Nigeria who contributed immensely to its socio-economic development.The only way to reward Ojukwu for his immense contributions, strong belief in equality and justice is to name some structures, roads and streets after him. He was a statesman and a social crusader.The death of Ojukwu is a great blow to the country and Ndigbo in particular, she saidA civil servant, Mr. Peter Odo, said Ojukwu was a brave soldier in the history of the country.Odo said, His courage in fighting for the interest of his Igbo clan cannot be forgotten in a hurry.He was a gallant officer, successful politician and visionary leaders leader.He was a national and international icon during his lifetime. Federal Government should immortalise him for his selfless service to his fatherland. If our leaders as sincere as Ojukwu, this country would moved to the next level, he said.A student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Gloria Ono, said the love Ojukwu had for Ndigbo was worthy of emulation as he used his wealth and strength to fight for their liberation when he felt they were being oppressed.Ono said, Ojukwu was a dedicated leader who believed in equal treatment of all citizens no matter their social class.FG should immortalise him for his strong belief in the rule of law, justice, as well as his enormous contributions to nation building.
