Ikemba was an advocate of justice ' Makinde

Published by Punch on Wed, 30 Nov 2011

The Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Sunday Makinde, has described the late former Biafran warlord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, as an advocate of fairness, justice and equity. He said Ojukwus demise was shocking and a great loss to the country. In a statement by the Media and Public Relations Officer of the Church, Rev. Oladapo Daramola, the Prelate said the vacuum left by this great man would be very difficult to fill.Makinde said, He was a man of valour and substance. He stood for what he believed in and in many ways impacted the lives of many people. Ojukwu was not just an advocate of fairness, justice and he equity, was visionary in every sense of it.His call for true federalism over 40 years ago forms part of the key components still missing in our democracy. Ikemba should not only be remembered for the war he championed but also for the principles and values he espoused. He commisserated with Ojukwus widow, Bianca, her children and other members of the family. The news of his death is such that many Nigerians and others like me who have come to know him find difficult to come to terms with. I am yet to wake up to the fact that it is indeed true,Makinde added.
