Adeseun offers NPL hotshot, Aneke N160,000

Published by Tribune on Wed, 30 Nov 2011

THE Chairman, Senate Commmittee on Banking and other Financial Institutions, Senator Ayo Adeseun has promised to give the Nigerian Premier League(NPL) highest scorer, Jude Aneke a prize of $1,000, a letter of commendation and a golden boot. Senator Adeseun in a press release signed by Honourable Taofeek Ojo and made available to Tribunesport , said "As a source of encouragement to Aneke, a graduate of Political Science from Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki who has done tremendously well to attain the highest scorer in a single season by any player in the Nigerian premier league."I will be presenting him a prize of the Naira equivalent of 1000 US dollars, Letter of Commendation and a Golden Boot."Senator Adeseun who is also a member of the Senate Committee on Sports also condemned the lackadaisical attitude of the government towards the league and the development of grassroot sports at large.Reacting to the lack of recognition and encouragement for the players plying their trade in the Nigerian local leagues, the Senator who represents Oyo Central Senatorial District in the Senate noted that, a case where there is 'no prize or award or any of such means of incentive for a player who is the all time highest goal scorer in the Nigerian Premier League is a reflection of the Government's laxity towards the development of our Local League. It is so sad that the leading scorer in the Nigerian Premier League, Jude Aneke of Kaduna United who has set a new all-time goal record of 20 goals this season, breaking the 18-goal record set by Ahmed Musa in the previous season, and a 17-goal record set by Ishaya Jatau in 1990 has not been recognised for his great feat.He added that the underdevelopment of Nigeria's local leagues is the major cause of the dwindling fortunes of Nigerian football which leads to the failure of Nigeria to qualify for the 2012 African Cup of Nations and other important competitions. However, the Senator promised to use all the resources within his disposal as a member of the Senate Committee on Sports to ensure that the indigenous leagues are well developed, adding that as way to encourage sport competitiveness among the youth in Oyo Central Senatorial District, he has concluded plans to organise Senator Ayo Adeseun Football Competition.
