Organisers promise fanfare at FIBA Africa tourney

Published by Guardian on Wed, 30 Nov 2011

THE final round of the 17th edition of the FIBA Africa Champions Club for Women will be a mixture of basketball and entertainment as the host club, First Deepwater Basketball Club has lined up two up-coming musicians to perform on every game day.According to information made available by the organisers, the artists will perform at half-time of the games slated for December 4 to 10 at the sports hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.First Deepwater sources hinted that the two musicians billed for the final round of the continent's biggest women club competition are KOP9DZ with their 'BOJU BOJU' from the forthcoming album and 'CHECKMATE' crooner, MR WALZ.Meanwhile, the two Nigerian representatives at the 2011 final round of the tourney, First Deepwater and former champion, First Bank, have doubled their training ahead of the first jump-ball on Sunday.Head coach, First Deepwater, Lateef Erinfolami, says his girls are battle ready for the final show down. The former Nigeria senior national team and Ebun Comets basketball club captain based his optimism on the performance of his players in the 2010/2011 women league season won by the club for a second straight season in Lagos.'We are set for any opposition and very eager to take to the floor of the sports hall. So, we want to enjoin basketball lovers in Nigeria to troop out in large numbers to give us maximum support,' he said.
