Nigeria shortlists Belgian for Technical director's job

THE Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has shortlisted former Ethiopian coach Tom Saintflet for the vacant job of the Nigeria technical director's post.According to a top official of the soccer ruling body, the Belgian was shortlisted for the job going by his high recommendation.''The Belgian coach comes highly recommended and has been shortlisted for the technical director's job,' a top official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) told MTNFootball.com.Besides Saintflet, the official disclosed that two other expatriate coaches are also on the line for the position, adding that the shortlisted candidates will soon be invited for interview out of which the successful one among them will be given the job.Saintfiet, 38, admits he will be excited to work with a football heavyweight country like Nigeria as he has worked in Namibia, Cote d'Ivoire and very briefly in Zimbabwe.According to the NFF, the technical director is expected to set up a proper structure for the development of football in the country and will also work closely with the various national team coaches to harmonise their programmes as well as targets and objectives.Incidentally, Brave Warriors of Namibia who were once handled by Saintflet are in the same qualifying group for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with Nigeria and with both sides meeting in Nigeria on June 1, 2012, to kick off the qualifiers. In June, the former technical director of Dutch club FC Emmen was only minutes away from recording a famous victory for Ethiopia in Dar es Salam over star-studded Nigeria's Super Eagles with his team of players from the local Ethiopian league.
