Ibru, Emerhor, Obule, others for awardTO CELEBRATE the 80th anniversary of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) in a special way, notable sons and daughters of Urhobo kingdoms will today take to the soccer pitch at Ughelli Township Stadium for a novelty match to kick-start the ceremony.The Union clocked 80 years on November 3, but the National Executive Council of UPU decided to commence the ceremony today, which coincides with this year's Urhobo National Day celebration.According to the National Secretary of UPU, Elder John Onojakpor, the celebration will begin today with a novelty match between Urhobo men and women at Ughelli Township Stadium, beginning from 2.00pm. The Urhobo National Day celebration will last till Sunday, with the National Congress fixed for tomorrow at the New Urhobo Cultural Centre Complex, Uvwiamuge-Agbarho.Other activities lined up for tomorrow include a special Anniversary address to be delivered by UPU President General, Chief Maj.-Gen. Patrick Aziza as well as a business session for delegates and special invitees of Urhobo origin only.A Special Anniversary lecture titled: 'The Challenges of Sustaining the Urhobo Vision' will be delivered by Prof. Andrew Onokeroraye, OON.A special Urhobo cultural carnival for the projection of the culture and tradition of Urhobo people will take its turn on Saturday. There are special prizes set aside for winners.Meanwhile, twenty people, including HRM Orhoro 1, (the former Orodje of Okpe Kingdom), Chief T.E.A Salubi, Prof. Omafume Onoge and Chief Mudiaga Odje have been listed for post humus UPU Merit award.Also, a total number of thirteen illustrious Urhobo sons, including Olorogun Michael Ibru, Chief Senator David Dafinone, HRM Benjamin Okumagba, Olorogun Major Gen David Ejoor, Chief Johnson Adjan, Olorogun O'tega Emerhor, The Very Rev. Prof. S.U. Erivwo and Chief Charles Ufuoma Obule have been listed for UPU Merit award.
