Ogun-West youths tackle Kashamu

Published by Punch on Fri, 02 Dec 2011

The Ogun West Youth Assembly has frowned at what it described as the "imperialist leadership style" of a Peoples Democratic Party stalwart in the state, Mr. Buruji Kashamu. In a statement by its President, Taiwo Elegbede, the youths also warned Kashamu against making smear remarks about the PDP governorship candidate, Maj-Gen. Adetunji Olurin (retd).Elegbede observed that Olurins principled position against Kashamus high-handedness in the party might have been responsible for his many outburst against the retired general. He said, "We take this as an insult on our collective psyche in the entire Yewa/Awori land. We totally reject any form of imperialism over our people under any guise."We warn again that any attempt by anybody to insult or harass any of our leading lights like Gen. Olurin will be resisted."The youths accused Kahamu of fanning the embers of discord among party members and scuttling the ambition of Ogun West to produce the state governor during the 2011 general elections.Meanwhile, the Chairman of the state PDP, Chief Dayo Soremi, has condemned Olurin for being at the 2012 Budget presentation by Governor Ibikunle Amosun. In a statement on Thursday, he distanced the party from Olurins action, saying, "He acted unilaterally."Soremi warned that the new PDP in the state would not condone indiscipline from members "no matter how highly placed."He said Olurins action had brought the party to disrepute, adding that it was against the partys Code of Conduct.Soremi said Olurin must give a satisfactory explanation for his action to avoid punishment.
