Privatisation programme was built on fraud - NLC

THE Nigeria LabourCongress (NLC)said on Thursday that the privatisation programme of the Federal Government, lacked transparency and was built on fraud, criminality and bare-faced theft of the country's wealth.To this end, the congress has backed the call by the Senate for the review of the programme and reversal of all the privatised companies that are found to have been sold without transparency and adherence to laid down procedures and global best practices.In a statement signed by the NLC's Head of Information and Public Relations, Comrade Chris Uyot, the summary of the debate in the Senate tallied with the position of the NLC that the privatisation programme lacked transparency and was built on fraud.Comrade Uyot said a few examples of such blatant criminality and connivance were aptly reflected in the sale of NITEL Plc and Transcorp Hilton Hotel 'to a conspiratorial gang in government and the private sector masquerading as Corporate Nigeria.'The NLC, therefore, demanded that all those indicted or might be indicted in the criminal process should be brought to book, saying that the labour movement and workers would mobilise Nigerians to check the subterfuge and would not rest until justice was done on the issue.
