All set for Kogi governorship election 'No room for election riggers -INEC 'Security tightened in Lokoja, others

THE stage is set for tomorrow's governorship election in Kogi State, as the national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, has warned potential election riggers that there will be no room for them.The nation's security agencies have also issued strong warnings to those planning to disrupt the election tomorrow to stay away from the state.The chairman of the Inter-Agencies Committee for a hitch-free governorship election in the state and the state Police Commissioner, Mr Amanan Abakasanga, who read the riot act on Thursday, during a stakeholders meeting, stated that nobody would be spared if caught disturbing the electoral process, no matter how highly placed.Abakasanga explained that the security agencies were on red alert and would do everything humanly possible to ensure a hitch-free election tomorrow.He disclosed that all the security agencies would deploy officers on election day, stressing that there would be restriction of movement from 6.00 a.m.to 4.00 p.m. tomorrow.He warned that only security agencies were constitutionally required to carry arms and ammunition and that anybody found with arms on election day would be made to face the full wrath of the law.He also warned that under no circumstance should the security agents be attacked, stressing that there would be reprisal from the law enforcement agencies.The police commissioner urged all politicians to adhere strictly to the electoral laws and regulations to avoid embarrassment.He told those alleged to have stockpiled arms to drop them or hide under their beds, as anybody caught would be treated like common criminal.Also corroborating the security situation in the state, the Army Command Record, Brigadier-General Alphonsus Chukwu, at the stakeholders' meeting, said the army was fully prepared for the election.He warned that anybody or group of people who carried arms during the election and was not part of the police, army or authorised security agents would be arrested by the security agents.He mentioned that the security agents were ready to confront any one that was planning to create an unpleasant scene during the election on Saturday.The National Chairman if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, has dsclosed that their will be no room for election riggers in Kogi State ahead of Saturday's governorship election.Speaking in Lokoja, on Thursday, during a stakeholders' meeting, he said that the commission was prepared to conduct free, fair and credible election.According to him, the election would be conducted in such a way that the issue of rigging would be out of it, adding that any of their staff caught in malpractices would be delt with.He commended the security agents for their preparations towards the election, which, he said, the people of the country would use to assess the performance of the commission.He assured that there would be no delay in voting, as electoral materials would get to their destinations.He also lauded politicans in the state for conducting themselves in an orderly manner during campaign, adding that INEC would provide a level playing field for all the parties.He mantianed that adequate security would be provided to man all the polling units across the state.'By virtue of arrangement made so far by INEC, I am satified and optimistic that free and fair election will be held,' he said.Professor Jega frawned on the use of local government secretariats for collation centres, adding that a neutral place would be provided to do away with allegation of bias.He charged all the contestants to abide by the rules and regulations as stipulated by the constitution.Meanwhile, INEC office in Lokoja is on a 24-hour surveillance as armed mobile policemen, military and civil defence corps men keep vigil at the premises and surroundings of the INEC office.Again, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSDC) has deployed 10,000 officers to beef up security in Kogi State for the gubernatorial election on Saturday.
