Alaba market tasks Lagos govt on expansion of Lagos-Badagry road

The PublicRelations Officerof the Alaba International Market, Mr Anayo Zimako, has urged the Lagos State government to expand the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.'The road expansion will boost daily volume of trade that goes on in the market,' he said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.He said the traffic congestion on the expressway was due to the road's width which was too small for the number of vehicles plying it at a time.He said the state government's intervention would benefit it financially on the long run.'Government can generate huge revenue if the people coming into the market increase astronomically.'On the sale of substandard goods in the market, the spokesman said its union was collaborating with the relevant government agencies to fight the problem.He said the market's leadership was examining a policy proposal to enable the traders to have their business-brand names on every product.Zimako said that the proposed policy had the possibility to checkmate piracy and the sale of substandard products in the market.He urged those who patronised the market to always collect receipts for goods purchased.'The receipt can help to track those who sell substandard goods.
