Mo'Hits rocks Abeokuta, wraps up Funlink Concert in Lagos

Published by Guardian on Sat, 03 Dec 2011

ABEOKUTA was agog recently as Mo Hits Crew stormed the town for the MTN Funlik Campus Concert series. Staged in the MKO Abiola Stadium premises, the gig, which lasted till the early hours of the following day, attracted students from different higher institutions in the state, who besieged the venue in fully loaded school buses, ready to rock with the stars. In its tradition, the show opened with a music contest by local talents, who had the opportunity of sharing the stage with the big acts. It was fun all the way as the anchorman, Seyi Law, moderated the session that saw the good, the bad and the ugly side of music. Other local based artistes also showcased their stuffs, but the concept was centered on Mo Hits Crew comprising of Don Jazzy, D'Banj, Wande Coal, D' Prince, Dr. SID and K-Switch.First on stage was K-switch, then came D' Prince, Dr. SID and Wande Coal before they teamed up to perform some of their group's songs such as Pere, Booty Call and others. Surprisingly, Don Jazzy, who was usually on the background, joined his men on stage, fuelling rumours that the music producer may soon drop his own album. The audience went wild in excitement with the appearance of the Koko master D'Banj on stage. In his usual character, the Good Music artiste electrified the stage with his energetic moves, jumping from one part of the arena to the other, acknowledging cheers from fans, who had waited all night to groove his beats.D'Banj started from his old repertoire, before dishing out some of his recent recordings, including Oliver Twist, which seems to be very popular with the audience. It was cheers all the way, as the award-winning artiste, in company of his men, shook Abeokuta to its roots with their heavy sound. From Abeokuta, the fun train returned to the Blue Roof, LTV 8, Lagos, where the concert, which commenced in Sokoto on November 3, was wrapped up in style. Just as anticipated, the gig witnessed a large turnout of fun-seeking youths and the young-at-heart, who trooped into the venue to be part of the musical explosion.Coming after some gripping performances from MTN Project Fame Seasons1 and 2 winners, InyanyaMbuk and Mike Anyasodo and rib-cracking jokes from star-comedian, Seyi Law, the 'Mo' Hits' Crew did not let the audience down as they rocked the stage one after the other. In what was clearly a night of thrills, MTN Funlink surpassed the expectations of Lagos music lovers with an overwhelming experience and other fun activities including singing and dancing competitions as well as comedy contest. It also provided opportunities for participants to walk away with exciting prizes.Speaking shortly after his performance, D'Banj commended the telecommunications outfit for providing the platform to interact with his fans across the country in an atmosphere of fun and excitement.'It's been a memorable experience for us since the tour commenced. It's a great opportunity for the entire Mo'Hits Crew because we have always wanted to meet and interact with our fans across the country. I'm particularly excited because the Funlink Concert took place at a time when I started promoting my new album.'While presenting prizes to winners, the brand manager, Youth and Trendy Segment, MTN Nigeria, Mr Kelvin Orifa, said the concert is a special package designed basically for the youth and others who want to identify with fun, friendship and trends.'The Funlink Concert is therefore one of those ways we intend to connect your passion for fun, especially through an exciting musical experience and interaction. It is a platform for youths to express themselves, their individuality, and hidden talents,' he said.
