Ekiti reads the Riot Act to contractors

Ekiti State Government has threatened to terminate the new road contracts it awarded if the contractors fail to move to site this week.The Commissioner for Works, Mr. Sola Adebayo, issued this threat in Ado-Ekiti on Friday at a meeting with the contractors the state awarded new road projects to.The state government is to spend a total N11,477,062,629.73 on 13 road projects that span 187.87km.The road projects cut across most of the local government areas of the state, and were approved by the Executive Council.Five of the projects were opened by Governor Kayode Fayemi in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday as he rounded off his tour of the local government areas to seek their inputs into the 2012 budget.Adebayo explained that the contractors were selected because they were found to have the capability to execute the projects even without the mobilisation fee.The commissioner said governments target was to have good roads before th next rainy season.He advised the contractors to set up laboratories on site to be manned by experts in order to deliver quality work.Adebayo also said the contractors had been directed to engage indigenes of the state to execute the projects awarded to them. He said it was one of the policies of the state to empower its people.He said, Timely delivery of work and performance will determine future patronage. Any contractor that does not move to site risks termination of his contracts. We wont tolerate three weeks of Christmas break because the rains can start again at anytime.The contractors were given between six and 12 months to complete the projects.
