Yoruba traditional, religious leaders urged to summon fresh peace meeting

Following thedwindling fortuneof the South-West in the politics of the nation, a non-governmental organisation, Save the Masses and Children's Heart Foundation, on Sunday, tasked traditional and religious leaders in Yorubaland to summon a fresh credible peace meeting of the leaders of the race.The meeting, according to the group, is expected to address the crisis among their leaders.A statement by the coordinator of the group, Akin Joye, made available to newsmen in Akure, the proposed meeting was important to enable the race achieve unity among its leaders.The group suggested that the peace meeting, which could either be held at the Redemption Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway or at the Ikenne country home of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, should 'strive towards re-activating the Yoruba culture of collective responsibility.'Notable religious leaders expected to convene the meeting included Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Pastor Williams Kumuyi, Dr Daniel Olukoya, Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, Prelate Ola Makinde, Bishop Ayo Ladigbolu, and Bishop Bolanle Gbonigi and the Aare Musulumi of Yoruba- land, Alhaji Azeez Arisekola-Alao.The group also wanted traditional rulers such as the Ooni of Ife, Alaafin of Oyo, Alake of Egbaland, Soun of Ogbomoso, Osemawe of Ondo, Owa of Idanreland, Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba of Lagos, Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland, Orangun of Ila, Olu of warri and the Olugbo of Ugboland to be part of the meeting.He explained that the parley, which should be also be attended by respected senior citizens in the South-West, would also be a veritable avenue for the transformation of the region socially, economically and politically.Joye noted that the meeting should be devoid of politics and should be aimed at developing the South-West, empower the youths and ensure crime free society.The group also charged the race to use the meeting to discuss the issues affecting the development of the region, adding that the conveners should evolve strategies that could ensure early fixing of deplorable roads and the decayed infrastructure in the region.
