Traders in Lagos express dissatisfaction on refuse collectors' poor service

traders in LagosMainland haveexpressed dissatisfaction with the services rendered by the refuse collectors sent to markets to evacuate waste.The traders also urged the leadership of the state Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) to call the refuse collectors to order and increase monitoring of their activities.``The collectors need to be supervised more to ensure that they carry out their duties diligently, Aminat Owode, one of the traders told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).Owode, a trader at Oyingbo Market, urged the Waste Management Agency to place `a standby' refuse truck at the market to enable traders dispose their waste easily.She identified daily evacuation of waste as the major challenge facing the traders at Oyingbo market.``If the agency can provide a standby refuse bin or truck at each market for the traders to dispose their waste, it will go a long way in assisting the clean up exercise.``The state government should also set up monitoring team to compel traders to clean the market everyday, instead of on Thursdays only,' she said.Mr Chibuzo Okey, who was selling stockfish at the market, stressed the need for traders and officials of LAWMA to keep the markets clean and tidy, especially as the Christmas season was fast approaching.
