Kwara commercial motorcyclists deny link with machete attacks

The Kwara State Motorcycle RidersCommercial Service (KSMRCS) has dissociated the body from the machete attacks reportedly perpetrated by some unidentified motorcyclists in Ilorin metropolis.It was reported that the denial came on the heels of reports that some unidentified motorcyclists were inflicting machete cuts on residents for ritual purposes.The association, in a statement issued by its president, Alhaji Toyin Alaase, exonerated members from the attacks and urged security operatives to unmask the perpetrators.'The union in a bid to prevent members from being mistaken for criminals has made it compulsory for them to always put on their uniforms while operating,'' he said.He said the association had warned members of the public to desist from patronising any commercial motorcyclist who failed to wear uniform.Alaase also urged the state government to bring commercial motorcyclists under a common body in order to ensure proper monitoring and control.He assured the security agencies of the union's cooperation in the effort to rid the state of crime.The body, however, appealed to the state government to rescind its planned ban of commercial motorcyclists.It said the ban would increase unemployment and bring economic hardship to the people.
