Stop fuel subsidy removal, Jonathan told

As PresidentGoodluck Jonathandelivers the 2012 budget speech to the nation today, an Ibadan-based legal practitioner, Mr Kole Ajayi, has advised the president not to make any pronouncement on the proposed fuel subsidy removal due to a pending suit challenging the action.Ajayi, in a letter to the president, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune on Monday, said 'we hereby demand that you resist any temptation to foist a state of fait accompli on the court by carrying out an act that will jeopadise the decision of the court.'As the chief executive of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that believes in the principles of democracy and also a major beneficiary of the rule of law and a stakeholder in the Nigeria project, we advise you to demonstrate respect for the rule of law and authority of our court by being civil enough to await the hearing and determination of this suit.'Ajayi reminded the president that originating summons in respect of the suit pending before a Federal High Court judge in Ibadan division, Justice Jonathan Shakarho, had been served on him.
