Edo gov aspirant woos residents with rice

Published by Punch on Wed, 14 Dec 2011

A Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Edo State, Mr. Kenneth Imasuagbon, on Tuesday in Benin, defended the sharing of rice to prospective voters in the state by his campaign organisation.Imasuagbon, who was at the state PDP secretariat on Sapele Road, to formally declare his intention to vie for the partys governorship ticket for the 2012 election, attributed the state of insecurity in Edo and other parts of the country to lack of employment. With shouts of Rice armada, the aspirant called on members of the state PDP executive to build on its new found credibility through conduct of free and fair primary election to determine who our candidate for the July 14, 2012 governorship election in Edo will be.He said, It is time we squarely address the dire state of insecurity in Edo State, which is principally fueled by lack of unemployment.Because of unemployment, thousands of youths have taken up arms which continue to portend danger for the corporate existence of Nigeria. He urged the new leadership to ensure that the right person was nominated. He said, 2012 is going to be a very good year for the PDP because we are heading to Dennis Osadebey Avenue; the seat of power. The die is cast and I am ready to serve as governor of Edo State. The PDP today is on the streets sharing rice to Edo people because of the hunger inflicted on the people by the ACN-led government in the state. Young men and women are suffering and that is why we decided to fight for food security.State chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, in a response commended the aspirant for his efforts and gave assurance of a free and fair primary.Orbih said, I want to assure you that as far as the exercise is concerned, I guarantee that there will be free and fair primaries for the Edo State PDP governorship ticket.
