Roads: Ondo buys N400m equipment

Ondo State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Gboye Adegbenro, on Wednesday handed over heavy duty construction equipment and utility vehicles valued at over N400m to departments in charge of roads maintenance and general administration in his ministry.He also explained that the N300m new office complex being constructed by the ministry would be ready for inauguration before the end of February, 2012.Adegbenro, while inspecting the equipment and vehicles in company with senior officials of the ministry, explained that various communities in the state had written the ministry demanding the rehabilitation of roads totaling about 300 kilomeres.He expressed confidence that the officials would ensure judicious use of the equipment, including 100 tonnes low-loader, bulldozers, pay-loader, chipping spreader, tippers, Hillux vehicles, and buses.He said the ministry had so far bought over 50 Hillux vehicles for the use of the site engineers and consultants to ensure adequate maintenance of roads after construction.He also said the heavy duty equipment like the Low-loader, bulldozers among others, would complement the existing ones in the ministry.Adegbenro said, "We award contracts for roads construction to competent major contractors who would do their jobs well. We however, needed all these equipment and vehicles to ensure adequate maintenance of the roads after construction."
