Vessel with decomposing fish consignment seized in Port Harcourt

A chartered Panamanian ship withdecomposing consignment of fish has been seized by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in Port Harcourt.The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the decomposing consignment of Mackerel, which was discovered by dock workers who were meant to offload it, was loaded from a port in the high seas of Mauritania.Disclosing this to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, the Port Harcourt Ports Manager, Lawrence Oladele Alabi, said the vessel anchored at the port on Friday, December 9, adding that investigations had commenced into the matter.According to him, the outcome of the investigations would be made public within 48 hours of its conclusion, adding that the vessel would then be disposed from the port to NPA facility in Bonny.'When I referred to Bonny, I never meant Bonny town, I mean the facility of the Nigeria Ports Authority in Bonny. This is where we keep such vessels temporarily. With regards to the nationality, the registered flag is Panama.'We are working with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the State Security Service (SSS), the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service and other stakeholders and we have agreed that they deploy the appropriate procedures to ensure that they carry out tests on the consignment,' he
