Tax: Zamfara reads riot act to defaulting banks

ZAMFARA State government has threatened to shut down any commercialbank found defaulting or paying inaccurate tax to thestateboard of internal revenue, according to the state board's executive chairman, Alhaji Mujtafa Isah Gusau.Speakingwith reporters on Tuesday in his office, the chairman disclosed thatthe action was part of the new plans aimed at improvingthe internalrevenue generating in the state.Mujitafa maintained that the boardhas commenced consultations for the auditing of the banks tax in the state, saying that, as soon as the consultations were concluded government will closed any bank decline to meet its tax remittance to the board.According to him, more zonal offices were on the process of establishment across the state for easy and accessible collection of revenue, adding that Kaura Namoda, Gusau Metropoli, Mafara and Gummi local government areas revenueoffices were upgraded to zonal offices.He disclosed that his office wouldcommence tax audit of all banks with a view to ensuring that they are up to datewith payment of revenue to the state, adding that closing down of any defaulting bank may be the last resort after exercising all available avenues.According to him,one of the biggest challenge he was facing,was the issue of individual taxpayers, stressing that they don't pay their tax promptly.This office would commence tax audit of all banks with a view to ensure that they are up to date with payment of revenue to the state, adding that closing down of any defaulting bank may be the last resort after exercising all available avenues.
