Oyo workers to get 13th month salary

The Oyo State Government has concluded plans to pay its workers 13th month salary.Governor Abiola Ajimobi said this at an interactive session with the labour leaders and civil servants in Ibadan on Thursday where he presented the half-year report of his administration.Ajimobi said apart from the 13th month salary, which was last paid five years ago, he had also approved the payment of 142 per cent increase to pensioners in the state.The governor who expressed his administrations commitment to the welfare of workers, also promised regular training and retraining programmes for civil servants to enhance their efficiency.He said, We want to develop our people; we want to subject them to regular training and retraining; we want to ensure that nobody attains the position of a director in the civil service without going for overseas training. Other categories of workers will also be taken good care of to make sure they deliver on their jobs.Ajimobi promised to carry out reforms in the civil service, saying part of the reforms was the introduction of the e-payment system as well as the payment of salaries latest by the 25th of every month.He explained that a scheme tagged Keke Ajumose, would be inaugurated next week during which no fewer than 1,000 tricycles would be given out.Ajimobi said commercial motorcycles, popularly called Okada riders, would be prevented from plying major roads in the state, to reduce accidents and improve safety.The governor said arrangements were being made with the Urban Development Bank to secure funds for the procurement of mini-buses for commercial purposes.He added that the state-owned Trans City Transport Corporation would be resuscitated and strengthened under a public-private partnership arrangement to make it viable.Ajimobi, who stated that government was already working on about 1,007 poverty alleviation projects, added that N3.3bn had been approved for all the 33 local councils at N100m per council for the execution of developmental projects.
