17 Ondo communities get N73m govt's support

About 17 communities across Ondo state have benefited from grant-in-aid scheme of the state government for completion of self help projects in their domains.The grant which was put at N73 million, was said to be the first batch of the grant put together by the state government for the development of local communities in the state.The Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperative Services, Clement Faboyede, said this at the opening of a training workshop for 900 Community Change Champions from 15 local government areas of the state.He said the money released to the communities was aimed at encouraging them to put in more efforts towards the development of their areas.He said apart from this, it was also meant to be a challenge to other communities that were yet to embark on self help projects.The commissioner, however, lamented that many of the projects when completed, particularly those executed by the government lacked maintenance and were therefore, not sustained.He said the situation led to the resolve of the state to train people that had shown interest in the development of their communities in the art of community participation, ownership and sustainability of the projects.He said the people were also expected to liaise with their communities and the state government on the issue of community development.
