IT is that time of the year that we are all bound by the bountiful blessing the world is celebrating -the gift of the love of God to all and sundry. It is Christmas, the commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ. At this time, people do not spare expenses for gifts for their loved ones, customarily, irrespective of the tides in the economy. What could change- is actually the level at which such exchange of gifts is done based on the inexplicable state of affairs in this blessed country of ours.In all these, it is perhaps right to remember our pets for the love they provide; for the loyalty they give, for their devotion. It is the sweetest thing to do.I know it is still not appreciated by so many people that you can extend this kind of attention to pets, because of the lazy argument that pets do not really know its Christmas or cannot decipher when a human is showing love and affection to them. For me, that argument cannot stand, as it has been proved severally that such claim run contrary to popular knowledge that pets are the most expressive of creatures.Pets (or animals) generally know when you are being kind to them and allow you freely into their world (or why do you think it was possible for man to tame, even the wildest of animals').Likewise, when you are mean to animals, they show it- sometimes by withdrawing from you or by attacking you to show their disgust. Dogs are very good at this. So, why not break the tradition and show a little love to your pet during this Christmas season'Of course, the question is how your feeling of appreciation can be expressed. Hugs and kisses alone would do. Lavish praises are also an excellent way of showing pets that you appreciate them.Beyond this, however, it is highly recommended that we show a little love to our pets at all times as a measure of our compassion to animals. There are a variety of ways we can express our love. Is it by providing that special food your pet relishes or by giving him his favourite toy or treat' You could buy him new bedding, new clothing, a leash or a collar- anything to show your devotion.According to a favourite pet blog- The Blue Cross- satisfying your pet does not have to cost a thing. In fact, your pets will appreciate things that are completely free, like a favourite game, a special bit of fuss or even an extra walk with him on Christmas day, which can help to provide the extra benefit by walking off the extra Christmas weight. Why not try a game of hide and seek by using empty cardboards stuffed with used or torn papers for your pet to play. You can turn it into a lucky dip by hiding his favourite treat or toy, so he gets a trophy each time he finds the hidden treasure. This is especially true for cats who more or less like to play detective. You could hide stuffs and encourage your pet to look and fetch them in a game of wits with you.So, loosen yourself and engage with your pets this Christmas time- a time for giving and caring and making special efforts to celebrate the good things in life with the ones you love.
